Russia Relief Rally

Yesterday's post suggested we look for upside sooner rather than later. There was a possibility of a more developed fifth wave down. That did not occur. What did seem to occur was a very negligible truncation which we also noted in the write-up. Thus, the count on the ES 4-Hr chart remains the same.

ES Futures - 4 Hr - Diagonal Count

The count from wave Minor 4 is that of minute ((a)), down, with the very slight truncation, and now minute ((b)) up. We must wait for the ((b)) wave, up, to burn itself out, and any lower low below minute ((a)) should start the minute ((c)) wave down of Minor 5.

This count gives us clear and crisp invalidation points at the prior Minor 4th wave high. And only good Elliott Wave analysis does that.

Again, Minor 5 only needs to be longer than Minor 3 in price, although it is ideal if it is also longer in time, too. And, here again, Elliott wave analysis provides the projected initial target.

Have a good start to the day.

    2. @enjoy .. No! In a contracting diagonal, wave 3 must 'by rule' be shorter than wave 1. Period; no if's and's or buts. Your count is not legal and just amounts to a 'cartoon' drawn for your own purposes. Find a copy of the rules & read them.

  9. SPY 15-min: I definitely do not know for sure, but there IS a way to count the minute ((b)), circle-b, wave as completed. The gap down makes it possible. And therefore, for this count, I would not want to see today's high taken out.

    https://www.tradingview.com/x/Gxjx8I5k/

The measurements are dead on the money of (c) = 2.618 x (a) in an expanded flat. And there is no problem with a flat or expanded flat 'b' wave in a diagonal.

Because the retraces are not very deep, keep in mind, this just could be a portion of a Flat pattern. Needs to exceed 4,422 lower for diagonal.

  15. TJ -

I've reviewed your post explaining the rules and parameters of diagonals found here:

    https://www.mediafire.com/view/kugx9s20guu4ezh/Contracting_Diagonal.jpg/file

Are there any hard rules about whether the internal structure of a diagonal in wave 1 position needs to be a 5-3-5-3-5 and a diagonal in wave 5 or C needs to have a 3-3-3-3-3 structure? If not hard rules, are their guidelines?

I'm pondering whether the internal structure supports a contracting leading diagonal as shown in the daily ES chart here:

    Thanks

    1. ..the two links are the same. The structure of a diagonal depends on if it is leading or ending. Leading can be 5-3-5-3-5 or 3-3-3-3-3, and ending can 'only' be 3-3-3-3-3.

    2. A leading diagonal occurs in wave 1 of an impulse and wave A of an A-B-C correction. Guideline usually subdivides 5-3-5-3-5 for waves 1-2-3-4-5 and sometimes subdivides 3-3-3-3-3 for corrective patterns.

    1. SPX 15-min: (b) wave bottoms taken out lower 'apparently' in less time than the up wave. In cash - at least - that is. Those of you that follow futures know it took much more time to defeat the down wave than an upward diagonal would have suggested. Very, very interesting.

      https://www.tradingview.com/x/3wJVDnEh/

Keep in mind, the 'rules & guidelines' likely came from extensive study of the cash markets.

    2. TimH .. don't you need to tell me why your count is the better count? I mean, if I thought it was the better count, wouldn't I say so? The problem with it is - as I have explained in prior comments - that as a corrective wave it would be much longer in price than the prior Intermediate (X) waves. I'm not saying that's impossible. I'm only saying that it makes me scratch my head as to why this would be so.
