Marginal Higher High

Today's marginal higher highs in the ES and YM futures changed nothing in the larger picture. The daily count remains the same, and is shown again below on the ES 2-day chart.

ES Futures - 2 Day - Possible Flat (X)

With nothing else to do but wait for the FED report-out and press conference tomorrow, today we had some fun with the one minute ES chart. First, we counted out this expanding diagonal live and in real time on the 1-minute chart.

ES Futures - 1 Min - Expanding Diagonal or TZZ

Then, when wave ((5)) reached 1.618 x wave ((3)), we noted that, and in the chart below, the retrace began, and smacked directly into the upper diagonal line, before easing off.

ES Futures - 1 Min - Retrace of Expanding Pattern

Tomorrow the count may be subject to what the FED says or does. For a further downward wave, the high should be respected. For the triple zigzag or ending diagonal alternate, price would go over the high. As a triple zigzag, it is highly possible that the down wave is a second wave. Why it might exactly match all of the parameters of an expanding diagonal leaves one's head scratching. The point loss was relatively minor on the day.

Have an excellent start to the evening.

    1. Me too! The great unwashed are about to get a real-life lesson on where control of interest rates ultimately lie. Hint: It is NOT the FED...!

  3. Although not very common, I believe the barrier triangle from the end of March is still in play. Seems like a fed meeting would fit an e wave scenario.

  4. Good morning all. Here is the ES 30-min intraday wave-counting-screen updated with daily pivot points (classic calculation), and nearby fractals.

Yesterday's 1-min diagonal was clearly 'Leading'. A lot of times those are only 'A' waves. So, there is a lot of risk around here, especially with the FED on tap later today.

Stimmy checks hit banks today, probably hit Robinhood in a few more days with some ACH clearing times.

    1. ..so, according to Figure 1-42 in The Elliott Wave Principle, in a barrier triangle wave 3 forms a portion of the barrier. In the diagram, the upper trend barrier line is drawn backwards to the top of wave 3 (or A). This price sequence does not seem to match that description. That said, they don't list a 'rule' for it in the book.

    2. Agree, not much in the book if you can have a running barrier or not. It does say on page 90 that B and D end at essentially the same level with no mention of the start of triangle.

  7. NQ works out quite okay as 5 waves down complete.

    - wave 3 = wave 1 x 1.382.
    - wave 4 was a triangle with a net retrace of 34% of wave 3.
    - wave 4 EWO signature on the money.
    - wave 5 closely approximates waves 1 thru 3.

Naturally this implies a rally. The 1st wave down was 352 pts. The biggest upward correction was 110 pts. Therefore wave 2 up should rally at least that far off the low.

  9. Until or unless today's low is exceeded lower, this is all I see on the ES 15-minute chart, especially with the possibility or reality of a triangle in the middle. The EMA-34 also, so far, supports only three waves down.

    1. See the weekend report on the 10-yr. It is somewhat similar. As I have said many, many times I'm just trying to help people count Elliott Waves for themselves. I can't and won't count every instrument.

  21. So, for those looking for a triangle; these are two legitimate ways to possibly do it. The longer (c) wave would be from 62%, to 78.6%.

  27. ES 4-Hr .. the triangle would seem to have an 'e' wave that is just too abbreviated. However, there is another possible pattern on the 4-hr chart.
